Opelousas, LA - The city of Opelousas is boasting with excitement as Emily Ortego, a 19 year old Opelousas native, announced today that she received a golden ticket to Hollywood, CA to compete on the latest season of American Idol.
Ortego announced the beginning of her American Idol journey on her Facebook page earlier this morning.
"Never in my life did I think that something so magical could happen. I've been knowing about this since October and can finally reveal the news to my closest family and friends, as well as my fans."
Ortego performed an original song co-written by herself, Kevin Montgomery, and Barry Ancelot entitled "So I Sing." A song Ortego describes as being "so near and dear to my heart." A song with a message about adoption.
Her original audition was not televised, however, Ortego was thrilled to reveal to her followers on social media that she received THREE yes's from Idol Judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. Ortego posted to social media saying, "I got three yes's from Lionel, Katy, and Luke...Even though moments with them weren't aired, I find peace in the fact that what happened in Denver will stay between me and them. They were so kind to me and so supportive of me and my story. I'll never ever forget that."
Ortego's journey on American Idol is just beginning and she hopes that you are ready!
