ST. LANDRY CRIMESTOPPERS AWARDED THE 2017 BEST CRIME OF THE WEEK FOR RADIO AND TV

February 2, 2018

ST. LANDRY PARISH - According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “The St. Landry Crime Stoppers program has been awarded the 2017 Best Crime of the Week for both television and radio for the population 0 to 250,000 in the nation.  The only other times that a crime stoppers program has won in the state was in 2014 and 2015 for population over 250,000 and was won by New Orleans Crime Stoppers and Greater New Orleans Crime Stoppers.” added Guidroz.

Major Eddie Thibodeaux who serves as the spokesman for crime stoppers stated that the Crime Stoppers USA board looked at the program and based their decision on the following criteria:

*Contribution to public awareness

*Originality of idea or concept, quality and excellence

*Impact on community

*Results obtained.

President of the St. Landry Crime Stoppers board of directors Stephanie Johnson says, “Major Thibodeaux upon accepting the spokesman position came up with the concept of not only spotlighting more of the crime but bringing in the men and women of law enforcement who directly work on the cases aired.”  Major Thibodeaux added, “Coordinators are merely spokespersons, airing the men and women of law enforcement, the real hero’s of law enforcement who actually solve the cases through the tips of crime stoppers should get most of the credit.  The media deserves credit but most of all the tipsters of crime stoppers, without them cases would be harder to solve.”

The St. Landry Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week is taped by KATC then aired on their channel on Wednesdays at 5:10pm and 10:10pm then on Thursday’s Good Morning Acadiana at 6:10am.  KATC also downloads the Crime of the Week on their website and Facebook page.   To better reach more people in Acadiana, News 15 KLAF joined KATC and airs the Crime of the Week on Thursdays.

Major Thibodeaux not only revamped the television Crime of the Week but increased the programs Facebook page from 15,000 likes when he took over to now close to 19,300 likes.  On the St. Landry Crime Stoppers page you can see the Crime of the Week, daily arrest and call log reports, press releases, public service announcements, and much more.

Thibodeaux also restarted doing radio spots and newspaper prints in order to help the officers solve cases.  The St. Landry Crime of the Week is taped in studio at FM101.1 KBON then shared to other radio stations and broadcasted worldwide.  The radio stations broadcast the Crime of the Week every Wednesday.

Sheriff Guidroz added, “The Crime of the Week is a public service to the viewers of KATC, KLAF, KBON, KEUN, KPEL, and the Eunice News.  I would personally like to thank the media outlets for giving up valuable air time spotlighting crimes in and around Acadiana.  If law enforcement, the media, and the citizens all work together, more cases can be solved.”  Deputy Sheryl Badeaux who serves as the crime stoppers administrative assistant said, “The main goal of crime stoppers is to spotlight a crime, receive ANONYMOUS tips, and pay out cash for information leading to the arrest.  You can help by calling the tip line at 337-948-TIPS (8477); tip online at stlandrycrimestoppers.com, or by downloading the P3 app on any mobile device and tip anonymously using your mobile device."
